Most runners look forward to Sunday as the day for their long runs. Now, Filipino runners have something else to look forward to on that day—a TV show on their favorite sport.
Starting this Sunday, Nov. 8, Runnerspeak will air weekly on QTV 11 from 2:45- 3:15pm. The show will be hosted by Joanne Ignacio and Johnny Dagami, who is more popularly known as Manny Paksiw. Show producer Ronald Rey M. de los Reyes said Dagami will provide a light comic touch to the show.
Episodes will be replayed in the Runnerspeak website at www.runnerspeakph.com. Ronald told CebuRunning that the production company behind the show has been in the TV industry for 20 years and has covered various sports, adventure, traveling and motoring events.
The program will have the following segments:
- Inside Running: the news segment of the show that will cover running events and any news about the running world.
- Hit the Road: this segment will feature running routes in various areas in the country.
- Head Shots: in this segment, the show will interview runners to get an insight into what goes on in their mind on the road.
- Manny’s ABC’s of Running: this is the segment for beginning runners and will deal with basic training programs as well as expound on terms and the lingo of the sport.
- Alpha Running: in this segment Action and Fitness Magazine and Philippine Star contributor Andy Leuterio will discuss tips on how to improve your running. He will feature gadgets, apparel, diets, etc.
- On Track: this is the show’s running calendar segment where race schedules will be featured.
- Every Run “Everyone Can Run”: this segment will feature different sports that benefit from running. Ronald told CebuRunning that running, aside from being the cheapest and easiest sport to take up, is the base of almost every sport. “Even martial arts and the sport of chess use running for endurance training and improving blood circulation and mental focus.”
Ronald said runners can expect the show to cover major running events in the country.
Ronald said his father, TV producer Ron de los Reyes, first thought of starting a TV show on running in the 1990′s when he used to organize the Milo Marathon. He never got around to filming it, however, because he was busy with his motoring show “Auto Review.”
Ronald said that in 2004, his father started organizing running events again. Early this year, he organized “Auto Review Run for Road Safety and Courtesy.” With running events peaking, Ronald said they realized that the time was right for a TV show on running. He said they started gathering materials for the show since June.
